Determine

the imperatives

  • Identify Solutions

"Necessity is the mother of invention."

    Plato

The ability of a company to be creative is heavily dependent upon the ability of the people within it to break away from their day job and spend time in a creative state of mind.

Contrary to popular belief we cannot just switch between focused delivery of objectives and achieving an unbounded free thinking mentality without help and, surprisingly, structure.

Holden-Consult works with individuals and teams using simple but effective tools to support them in progressing from, unmet needs and/or interesting technology or product ideas, to projects that can be commercialised, and that generate value for the organisation and its customers.

We believe that ‘it is not that they cannot see the solution it is that they cannot see the problem’ or indeed agree on the problem they wish, or need, to solve; How do you know which idea will deliver value for your company if you do not know which problem you are trying to solve.

To this end, we provide a step by step facilitated approach to support teams to identify key customer gaps and generate good workable solutions, ensuring agreement and engagement by all as we progress.

We consider real and perceived constraints as move forward and ensure that the solution space is well defined. The environment we create is deliberately intended to provide a degree of carefully managed pressure to galvanise teams and create a one for all, all for one mentality; which is both effective and fun.

This is known as the Deep Dive Pressure Vessel.

Throughout the process journey we ensure that there are regular reviews with key stakeholders, and appropriate and timely information is made available to aid good decision making. The process concludes with a robust output which enables the organisation to move forward with The Project, and with Total Organisational Engagement.

  • Astute Strategic Planning

“If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favourable”.

    Lucius Annaeus Seneca

The strategy of an organisation is in effect the Executive teams project; they are responsible for designing it, planning it, reviewing and monitoring it, and delivering it; If they are unaware of the desired outcome, have no game plan, and are unable to articulate the imperatives to get them there, they will not succeed.

Holden- Consult works with Senior Executives and Board teams to define strategic goals; determine plans to deliver them and provide infrastructures to monitor, review and adjust them as they progress.

Our background and experience enables us to provide both inspiration and challenge to stretch individual thinking beyond the obvious, whilst always being mindful of the need to bring discussions and debates back to the practical reality of how they will be delivered; assessing realistic constraints and ensuring commitment from all.

    Our approach would be:

    • Insights interviews to gauge understanding
    • Workshop design and facilitation to identify key outputs
    • Follow up support and assessment to ensure redirection and monitoring
    • Identify key roles within the team that need to be fulfilled and ensure they are resourced
  • Enlightened Technology Planning

“There are two classes of forecasters: Those who don’t know, and those who don’t know they don’t know”

    J.K. Galbraith

    Why do a technology Plan?

Once you have determined your strategy you need to know where best to spend your money and resource, to achieve your long term aims and maintain your current business.

Technology forecasting and planning can enable you to decide whether to acquire/merge, develop, spin out/spin in, joint venture, collaborate or ditch all and start again!

By understanding your technology strengths and weaknesses in relation to the competition you can make clear and good decisions about technologies that you are offered, or those that you need to seek.

You can more readily and effectively allocate and reallocate resource when and where needed, and just as importantly the reason that you are doing so becomes transparent. You gain more buy-in, and there is less confusion when difficult decisions are made and communicated.

Few businesses do this; and yet when done well it is a powerful adjunct to the strategic planning process.

No one has a crystal ball but there is no excuse for lack of good preparation. Don’t let what you don’t know get in the way of what you do know or can find out.

At Holden-Consult we work with Senior Leadership Teams and Enterprise Technology Leaders to establish the goals for technology, understand the gaps, constraints, and opportunities, and to define the route forward for the organisation in its technology development access and partnership planning.
